S eeing as it was my Birthday – 38 years young – I thought I’d mix up the training walk today and add in another of my favourite pastimes, drinking! The route for my Birthday stroll was a nice 9.8 miles around the local lanes, taking in six very nice pubs. The pubs I visited were:
- The Duke of Wellington (Twyford)
- The Royal Oak (Ruscombe)
- The Star (Waltham St. Lawrence)
- The Shurlock Inn (Shurlock Row)
- The Green Man (Hurst)
- The Elephant and Castle (Hurst)
You can see the route in the map below:
Shame a lot of the walk was completed in the rain but I guess that’s something I need to get used to considering how unpredictable the weather in the UK is?!
One valuable lesson learnt on this walk was…don’t drink during the day on the actual LEJOG walk! My boots felt like they were made of lead half way round and I could have quite easily spent the entire afternoon in the Shurlock Inn, feeling a little full of beer by that point. A daily celebratory pint (or two) will be left until the evening each day – no beer at lunch time! We’ll see how well I manage to stick to that plan won’t we?!
